The school year is coming to a close. Only one and a half more weeks
left in the third year of our college career! And unfortunately that
means another break from new Limited Time Offer music. Seems not too
long ago when we came back together to start writing; a shame that it
has to end again. After this we won't be seeing each other til the new
year; thus, we have a lot to do before we say our momentary farewells.
We've posted a new song, "Grey Sweater," on Myspace. It is a pretty
experiemental song for us, and as far as mixing and mastering goes,
probably one of the most difficult pieces for me to mix so far. As far
as straight up layers go, this song has more than 20. For example, the
soaring "ahhs" that come in on the second chorus are comprised of four
layers of separate vocal tracks to get that echo-ey, chorus-like sound.
Finals are next week but somehow, someway, we'll finish what we've set
to do. Of the 13 or so songs we have written, 9 will for sure make it
onto the next "CD." Five of them have been recorded. And we're
currently writing two more, extremely promising pieces.
Enjoy the new music, tell us what you think! And, as always,
downloading is disabled because Myspace quality sucks; any songs you
want, feel free to email or contact us and we'll send them to you!
Didi and Xiao Jie are such bullies. I used to feel sorry for them because whenever Vernon was home he would absolutely terrorize the two of them. However, in reality Vernon just wants to play. He is that person in the group who is always asking everyone else "So what now? So what now? So what now?" He just wants to find dogs (or people) to play with all the time; call him a little too sociable. It is sad that he is just a super active dog that just wants to play, and that Didi and Xiao Jie are just too lazy or chillaxed to be bothered with playing with him so they just get mad at him whenever he does try to play. It's gotten to a point where whenever Vernon even tries to get close to Didi and Xiao Jie, the two of them make this gutteral growling noise, and Vernon simply whimpers and walks away.
He also competes with Didi and Xiao Jie for the attention of people, which is bad news because he is way bigger than either of them. So when you come into their dog area, all three of them start pawing at your legs. But Vernon will come up in his excitement and larger weight, and sort of just push them off to the side, which elicits growls again. Poor Vernon.
I tend to feel sorry for Vernon so I end up playing with him a lot because the other two dogs can keep themselves entertained. Whenever Vernon sees me he jumps at me, then runs around looking for the nearest toy. Then he takes the toy and stuffs it into my hand. He wants me to pull on the toy so he can play tug of war with it. He does this without fail every time he sees me. One time he jumped up while I was sitting down on the floor, and he bit me straight on the nose. Now my nose is red, but me and Vernon are still cool.

What an amazing ad for an amazing song, can not wait for this CD to come out.
Apparently, it's already fourth
week. And I've seen way too little of my friends, writing music, the
sun, warm weather, and the beach. What's going on, spring quarter? I
lived through winter quarter in jackets and scarves for the promise of
waves and bodyboarding! I dropped a class and still no time for spring
enjoyment! There have been maybe a total of two days that have passed
this quarter that have been warm enough for the beach, and that's 26
days too little.
This quarter has also been unexpectedly busy.
First round of midterms is ramping up but, even though I honestly
haven't studied that much or anything for the first three weeks, I've
still always been busy. SOMEthing. (Oh that's right, I spent a whole
week of spring quarter w/ strep throat = FUN) Already fourth week and
zero out of eight songs recorded for LTO's new album; can you say
epic fail? This quarter is passing by way too fast and I am not
embracing enough of it. I feel like I should since I'm spending fall in
Taiwan. I feel like I should be doing more with my quarter, and more
with my college experience before the death that is med school.
The sad part is that the next time I will be free to do stuff is sixth week.
The sadder part is that I'll probably spend most of it in the living room in front of my television. BRING ON THE SUN!
P.S.
Anyone looking for new music needs to listen to the new She & Him
CD. It's fantastically brilliant, and it's got a really nice warm 50's
vibe to it. Plus "She" is Zooey Deschanel and she is a total cutie with
a serious voice.

Kav tagged me in a note listing all the things that helped her get through the indeterminable process of finals week, and I thought it might be a good idea. Finals week greeted me with a violent case of stomach flu, which was not fun; a whole day of studying completely gone in bed and another spent studying in a stupourous state of half-sleep, I'm catching up slowly but surely, albeit with a lot of frustration, etc. Anyway, finals are full of lose, so, in my humble opinion, the following things are those which are full of win all the time, every time, and keep me sane through finals week (in no particular order)
-Other people studying for finals (lol) -Limited Time Offer -Full tank of gas, a sunny day, a great stretch of road and nothing else to do -Peach green tea with boba -Good conversation -Good music -Didi and Xiao Jie
Back to studying. Did I mention, my zhong wen test is tomorrow at 3 and I just cracked my book open? lol, owned.

Well, it's the weekend eve before finals, and that can only mean one thing: I'm doing everything BUT studying. It's not on purpose or anything. It's just a gravity that pulls relentlessly. If I am a satellite then procrastination is my earth. And actual studying is, I don't know... Jupiter.
The good news is that I come bearing more Limited Time Offer songs. Marie and I have been working on a few songs and we finished them in time for the quarter end. It has been a productive quarter, song-wise; after almost a year apart we hit the ground running. We wrote about six songs, and finished recording and mixing three of them, and we're pretty happy with how they've turned out. I am sure you have all already heard "Stable." The two new songs I'm adding to el Myspace (www.myspace.com/ltdtimeoffer) are called "Purge" and "Morning Cartoons."
"Purge" is a nice, simple song about finding yourself in unfamiliar places and longing for old friends. It's a feeling I've been getting lately, throwing myself into new groups of friends and detaching myself from an old lifestyle. Marie wrote a pretty darn catchy guitar part, and we both wanted the final recording of this song to sound like a live show of the song of sorts. Very simple and very fresh.
"Morning Cartoons" became a sort of epic orchestral song which, to be honest, was not how we imagined it. This song is, quite simply, about losing childhood innocence. The first half is done up in a ye olde radio style and it transitions to this billowing, wavy cello section second half that brings matters home. Not very simple, not very fresh. We like it, and we hope you guys do too.
Oh, and in case no one noticed, we've started making little videos of ourselves covering other songs. Last week we tried our hand at Death Cab's "I Will Follow You Into The Dark," and... it was ok. We've got something pretty spectacularly hard and fun next week after finals, so watch out for that. The video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF2sTtq0oPQ
Anyway, hope you guys check out the music and tell us what you think!
